Prof. Dr. iur. Andrea Eisner-Kiefer

is a lawyer and lecturer in private insurance law at the University of Bern. She studied at the University of Basel (licentiate 1993), where she also received her doctorate (1999). Her dissertation was honored by the Swiss Society for Liability and Insurance Law (SGHVR). After her studies, Prof. Dr. Eisner worked as a legal assistant at a law firm in Basel and as a research assistant at the Faculty of Law at the University of Basel. She was admitted to the Bar in 2001. From 2003-2008 she was a lecturer for private law at the University of Basel. After further positions in the Legal Service of the Federal Office for Private Insurance (2002-2005), the law firm Schmid Eversheds (2006-2008), as Head of Legal Services of the Department of Health of the Canton of Basel-Stadt (2008-2011) and as a lawyer and partner in the law firm Lenz Caemmerer in Basel (2011-2021), she has been working in her own law firm in Basel since 2021 (www.eisnerlegal.ch). Prof. Dr. Eisner was a member of the Federal Commission of Experts on the Complete Revision of the Insurance Contract Law (VVG) and has been responsible for Private Insurance Law at Jusletter since 2010. Prof. Dr. Eisner is a member of the Bar Association of Basel and the Swiss Bar Association.
